About strictly collaborative

The ethos behind Strictly Collaborative

1 Strictly Collaborative is an exciting and innovative new venture. It is an INCLUSIVE theatre company aimed at 13-25 year olds. INCLUSIVE means that DISABLED and NON-DISABLED can take part in this COMMUNITY based project.

This is the FIRST company of its kind in Plymouth and there are very few DISABLED led theatre groups in England. My aim is to facilitate the two abilities in WORKING TOGETHER as I believe that there is an inherent fear of the unknown when it comes to Disability.

2 Strictly Collaborative extends new opportunites for disabled young people to participate in a local group that is genuinely ACCESSIBLE TO EVERYONE. Non-disabled young people will also be expanding their knowledge, skills and understanding of, not only their community, but of the disabled community.
Strictly Collaborative performances are all AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL, they exist out of the experiences that the participants have in their own lives.

This is important for many reasons:

  • So the company has an invested interest in the project.
  • So that the company can vent issues, feelings and emotions that they cannot vent anywhere else.
  • So that the company can see things from another point of view.
  • So that the audience will THINK about and try to UNDERSTAND the company's point of view.

In STRICTLY COLLABORATIVE not only do participants have mixed abilities but the PRACTITIONERS and FACILITATORS do also.
This is crucial as it shows people that, depsite the 'barriers' of disability, ANYONE CAN LIVE UP TO THEIR FULL POTENTIAL.

Strictly Collaborative exists to bridge the gap between disabled and non-disabled young people aged between 13 and 19 years, through an integrated drama company. This will increase engagement for disabled young people in creative activities
